i Am Indie Hip Hop Wednesdays: Kalibur

kaliEmcees who speak the truth and bring relevant issues to light will always get respect from me!

This week’s recipient of admiration is Kalibur, an artist from D.C who’s pulling back the proverbial covers on the falsehoods of rappers with his latest song entitled “Subliminals.”

The beat produced by C&N is dramatic, trapped out with violins, bells and drum kicks that hit so hard you could feel it in your chest. Kalibur’s delivery is just as intense as he goes in on those who hide behind social media, fronting about their statuses, and being undercover haters.

What really sounds the alarm is the visual that complements it. A seven minute-twenty second sound track film that has a powerful anti-bullying message.

We see enough images on the “turn up” so it’s refreshing to see something that brings awareness to an issue that’s plaguing our youth and society as a whole. The video, which is directed and edited by Kalibur himself, contains no profanity therefore it can be watched by people of all ages.

i Am Indie Hip Hop Wednesdays: Sasha Renee

Sasha Renee

This week we present an emcee/singer songwriter who brings a mellow vibe, smooth vocal tones and lyrics that you can feel. If you reside in Louisville, KY then I’m certain that you’ve already heard of this siren, Sasha Renee.

She’s sounding off with her new single titled “Love Lost,” and for anyone who’s going or gone through heartbreak, you will discover the song to be very relatable.

The beat made by KSB has a neo-soul feel which makes it the perfect backdrop for this subject. The way Sasha lays her vocals and harmonies are like petals on water – that’s just how smooth this joint is. Be sure to check out her new single below and I guarantee you will gain love for her as an artist.

i Am Indie Hip Hop Wednesdays REWIND: Dangafield

Welcome back family & friends!

Last month we featured Dangafield (link blog here), an independent artist out of Louisiana.

He presented the track Live from the Ghetto, a very in depth song about his experiences while growing up in Uptown New Orleans.

This time around he’s delivered a follow up on visuals directed and edited by Dennis Holt. Take a moment to refresh yourself on this dope artist as he takes you into the scenes between the Jefferson Parrish and the French Quarter.
